Giving Opportunities and Finance

Parish Offertory Support

It is our fundamental belief that God created the world, made us in His image and likeness, put us in the world and placed it under our care. That makes all of us a steward or a caretaker of that creation. God has given us everything we have: the world we live in, our life, our family.  In gratitude, we need to give back a portion of our time, talent, and treasure to further the kingdom of God on earth.

We are very thankful for your strong and faithful support to Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.  We are all stewards who are called to make a difference in the lives of the people in our parish and community.   I firmly believe, along with Saint Paul, that, "The love of Christ impels us…(2 Cor 5:14a)" and that love leads us to imitate the works of our Patronal Saint Thomas to be apostles of the Gospel.  It is through your stewardship and the power of The Holy Spirit that we can accomplish far more than we can either ask or imagine.

 Capital Reserve Fund

We have identified several future projects that will require the use of a significant amount of money.
The collections from our regular Sunday Offertory are not enough to fund these future projects. This fund will also be used for those potential unforeseen needs that will come with an aging campus. This collection takes place each year in January.

Maintenance Fund

The St. Thomas family does a wonderful job of volunteering to maintain the church facility and grounds. Did you know that nearly all of our facility cleaning and lawn care is currently taken care of by volunteers?   However, we still need to purchase supplies and equipment and also pay for repairs, paint, and other professional service on occasion. This fund helps to do that and to also prepare for the inevitable repairs that will come with our not-so-new building in the future.

This collection takes place each year in June.

QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTIONS

From the Diocese:

In December 2015, Congress made permanent a law allowing individuals to give up to $100,000 to charity directly from an individual retirement account (IRA) when they are over 70 ½ years old without counting the distribution as taxable income. This type of charitable gift is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

While IRA donations can be acknowledged by the charity, they should not be tax receipted. There is no income tax deduction for a donor’s contribution through an IRA. However, the sum going to charity is not included in his or her adjusted gross income. Donating these assets as a charitable rollover means the donor does not have to take a minimum required distribution beginning at 70 ½ that they would have to pay taxes on.

Sometimes it is difficult for charities to know if a contribution is one of these donations. All tax letters from St. Thomas will have a disclaimer on them this year stating that if any contribution were a from an IRA, the donor should consult with their tax professional regarding deductibility.

Online Giving

Giving online can be a nice convenience for parishioners.

By supporting St. Thomas through WeShare, you are part of an innovative new way of giving that saves time, money, and resources. Electronic giving makes it much faster and easier to record your gifts, without the risks of loss or error that come with counting, recording, and depositing checks and cash. Also, electronic giving helps bring consistency to our parish by allowing families to give as they wish, even when they are out of town or unable to attend Mass.
