Education

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God (Romans 12:2).

Parishioners involved in Education ministries help to educate the faithful at St. Thomas, from young children to adults.

Religious Education

Helping others encounter the Living Christ is a fundamental goal of all catechesis. Children in grades K-7 are introduced to the message and mission of Jesus Christ. Our dedicated teachers strive to create and environment of hospitality to where their witness gives expression to the loving presence of God. Their teaching encourages children to deepen their faith. They inspire children to grow in understanding and knowledge of our Catholic beliefs and instill a great love of Christ.

Language Programs (ESL/SSL)

English as a Second Language: For non-speakers of English, our parish conducts a two-tiered language program weekly. Several levels of instruction are offered: Beginning, Advanced Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced English. The program also has the capacity of teaching literacy (English) and citizenship. A deposit of $5.00 is required for a workbook. The deposit is returned if the student attends 12 classes. It is not necessary to be a parishioner of St. Thomas to participate in the ESL program. Classes are held in the Parish Family Life Center

Spanish as a Second Language: Our parish also offers weekly classes for English speaking students who wish to learn Spanish. Several levels of insruction are offered: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Conversation. Classes are held in the Parish Family Life Center.

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation is based on the principle that the process of conversion proceeds gradually, in stages. Progress from one stage to the next is marked by a liturgical celebration in the midst of the parish community. The experience and needs of those in each category differ, and so the length of time may vary for each person. Yet there are similarities among all the groups and the process they will experience.

Unbaptized adults who need a process to help them grow in awareness to God's call to conversion as well as ways to respond to that call. They are considered catechumens.

For those baptized in another Christian church seeking full communion with the Roman Catholic Church (Eucharist and Confirmation) are also considered candidates.

Adult Catholics who were baptized and received their First Eucharist in the Catholic Church and are interested in the Sacrament of Confirmation should contact the parish office.

Contact the church office to set up an appointment with Fr. Christian or Fr. Tom.

Sponsors are traveling companions to the Inquirer going through the RCIA process. Sponsors are friends, companions, and guides along this journey. A sponsor listens to his/her candidate’s faith and questions and doubts; does not have to be any kind of authority of the Catholic religion.

A sponsor does have to be a practicing Catholic and has to have received the Initiation Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

A sponsor comes to the weekly sessions and the special rites with his/her candidate, encourages his/her candidate and is willing to share his/her time and faith.

Sponsors are the link through which candidates become exposed to the various ways in which members of the parish community already serve in some form of ministry. As sponsors we do not come with a ready-made plan for any candidate, but we listen with them as the plan of God unfolds in their hearts and actions.

Adult Faith Formation

Adult Faith Formation is the educational mission of our church. We provide opportunities for adults to deepen their understanding and appreciation of our Catholic faith, by offering programs such as "Why Catholic?", Bible Studies, "Little Books on Advent/Lent/Easter" and planning whole community catechesis events. We focus on the entire church community offering programs within bilingual context.

We encourage parishioners to make suggestions for adult faith programs that will enable all to grow in their faith. We invited adults to attend programs and give honest evaluations to help us cultivate our plan.

We all come to this community with experiences from other churches, you are welcome to join our committee to help us expand and produce quality curriculum. National and local speakers enhance our knowledge and help us deepen our faith, please offer contact information or sponsor a speaker.
