Curt Sheldon

Curt Sheldon   -   Parish Council Vice Chairperson/Social Action & Social Justice Co-Chair

Curt serves as the Parish Council Vice Chairperson as well as the co-chair of the Social Action & Social Justice Commission on the Parish Pastoral Council.

As Vice-Chair, Kurt assumes the duties of the Chair in the event of the Chair's absence and other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Curt works to identify the human needs of the parish and community and to create and support programs to meet those needs. The goals of this commission are to educate parishioners about peace and justice issues and social teachings of the Church; to empower people to take action on the issues that affect their own lives; to join with other churches, organizations, and programs to promote and strengthen action for peace, justice and charitable works; to cooperate with groups that are advocating for the people who are hurting, or for change in public policy that positively affects the lives of people.

Curt is a native of Chattanooga and has been a member of St. Thomas the Apostle for seven years. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics from St. Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama and has professional actuarial certification.

He is an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist (EME) and a member of the Ignatius prayer group, the men's Cursillo group, the Social Action/Social Justice committee, the Pro-Life Committee, and the Knights of Columbus.

Curt also serves as a Why Catholic facilitator, is a past Bible study facilitator, is active in Cursillo, and is a coordinator of the Friendship Kitchen ministry. He is also a graduate of the Just Faith program.

He is a regular witness at Knoxville abortion facilities and member of the Blount County Right to Life chapter.

Curt's 39-year career as an actuary for several insurance companies included Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, American Heritage Life Insurance Company, and Allstate Insurance.

Curt and his wife Kay moved back to Tennessee in 2003 to be near family, the lake, and the mountains. They have five children and nine grandchildren.
